WORLD CUP 2018 FEVER - WELL DONE ENGLAND!

Well last night's World Cup 2018 match was a game of two halves wasn't it? For the first 10 minutes there England dominated and it actually looked like the lads wanted to win, making it a feisty, exciting edge-of-seat start to the game that saw our England boys going for the Tunisian jugular. And then in true England style, it all sort of went a bit... flat. Thankfully a 2nd goal towards the end of the 2nd half of the match secured a win for England and raised the hopes of fans who are asking, is a World Cup win for England a possibility?

England forward Harry Kane was the star of the match, scoring 2 goals against the Tunisian side at Volgograd, making this player a good contender for the Golden Boot. However, it could be said that despite an impressive first half, overall England got off to a 'safe' start, possibly demonstrating on one hand a good defence if not a good offence, or on the other hand that well-known lack of killer instinct that can make our lads look a little complacent. Add to that a 'polite' referee (arguably with a heavy German bias), who failed to award 2 penalties to England and the initial oomph and excitement of the first half was lost the 2nd half of the match.  

Why don't we display the same determination to win that other teams seem to have in abundance? Ok, we don't play 'dirty' football and that's no bad thing, but there's a difference between out and out cheating and giving it everything you've got for 90 minutes. Sometimes it just seems a bit lacklustre - do our lads have too much of a sense of well-mannered Englishness that probably doesn't belong on the football field? Having said that, last night England did what Spain and Germany couldn't, which was win the match. So England is off to a positive start and with an initial 2-1 win under our belts, Gareth Southgate's team still have everything to play for. We just need that extra bit of fire and magic to make a win a real possibility. 

England next play on SUNDAY 24TH v Panama.
