Clients based in or visiting South Manchester this Sunday, October 4, are advised to plan their journeys well in advance, as major road closures and extensive travel disruptions are expected across the city.
More than 100,000 visitors, including a record 32,000 runners and up to 60,000 spectators, are set to descend on the area for the 2026 ASICS Manchester Half Marathon.
The 13.1-mile race route centers around Old Trafford, Stretford, Sale, and Chorlton. While rolling reopening schedules begin in some zones from 1pm onwards, key arterial routes across South Manchester will remain restricted into the late afternoon, with final road closures expected to remain in place until around 7.30pm to 8.30pm.
Major Affected Zones: Old Trafford, Stretford, Chorlton, Sale, and key sections of the A56 (Chester Road/Washway Road).
Road Closures: Rolling closures begin early Sunday morning, with the heaviest restrictions running throughout the day until approximately 7.30pm.
Public Transport: Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has warned that road traffic will be heavily congested and Metrolink tram networks will be operating at peak capacity throughout the day.
To ensure your appointments run smoothly and without delay on Sunday:
Allow Extra Travel Time: If travelling home or to a hotel by car or taxi for a booking in Stretford, Chorlton, or surrounding South Manchester areas, please allow significant extra time for potential detours and traffic congestion.
Consider Alternative Routes: Drivers are encouraged to utilise outer arterial routes (such as Princess Parkway / A5103) rather than central routes through Trafford or Chorlton.
Use the Metrolink: If travelling home or to a hotel within the city, the tram network remains the most reliable option, though services will be extremely busy throughout the afternoon.
Outcall Delays: If you have booked an outcall appointment on Sunday afternoon or early evening, please note that arrival times may be slightly affected due to local diversions.
Our companions will maintain clear communication to keep you updated on arrival times. We appreciate your patience and look forward to seeing you this weekend.
